Last night’s interview between Meghan Markle, Prince Harry, and Oprah has set the internet ablaze, and rightly so. Meghan made incredibly upsetting revelations about the state of her mental health, the lack of support she received from the palace, and racially charged remarks made by other members of the royal family.
Throughout Meghan’s time as a royal, the British tabloids have been particularly vicious and often racist in their coverage of her. At the beginning of the interview, Oprah highlighted some of the differences between the way the tabloids reported on Meghan compared with Kate Middleton. While Kate was praised for eating avocados, the tabloids suggested that Meghan eating avocado toast is “fueling human-rights abuses, drought, and murder.”
